On June 28th we celebrated my mother’s 90th Birthday. She turned 90 on January 1, 2014 but since we live in northeastern Minnesota we knew there would be a good chance that a snow or ice storm would deter people from attending a party – so we waited until June.   Over the years I have asked my mother many questions about her childhood and her past. I have written down all the anecdotes I could. I have pressed her for more details and I’m sure at times frustrated her with my many questions. Yet, after all of these years, … Continue Reading →

On Saturday, June 21st I gave a presentation for my local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. I spoke on ’44 Genealogy Websites in 44 Minutes’ (plus bonuses). I received great reviews. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping others learn new ways to discover information about their ancestors. I will be speaking again this fall at the Minnesota Genealogical Society Conference in Edina, MN (Oct 3-4) and also at the Twin Ports Genealogical Society in Duluth (Oct 18 and Nov 3)

Annual Book Sale – Friends of the Duluth Public Library – Duluth, Minnesota. I’m getting ready to head to the Duluth Minnesota Public Library Annual Book Sale.  I have found wonderful books that help me with my genealogy research and for writing my family history.  In the past I have purchased old books about the history of a local area or county.  I have found books about the chronological history of America, the American Revolution, the Civil War, Sears Roebuck catalog, women in history, old medical books and so much more.  While you might not find an actual listing of your relative … Continue Reading →

Warren Bittner (Proof Arguments:  How and Why). I’m going to enjoy another round of talks today.   I have my handouts printed, my diet coke next to me and I’m ready!  Today I will be listening to F. Warren Bittner (Elusive Immigrant), Judy G. Russell (Staying out of Trouble: … Continue Reading →

A 90th Birthday Celebration My mother turned 90 years old on January 1, 2014. We are having the celebration on June 28th. We live in northeastern Minnesota and knew that travel in January would be questionable and many would not be able to attend. So a nice summer party is in the planning. I’m in charge of the invites. Tracking down everyone and getting snail mail addresses and e-mail addresses made me realize how easy it is to lose touch with family and friends. Older generations are downsizing and moving, younger generations are upsizing and moving and e-mail providers and … Continue Reading →
