MAC-V Stand Down Duluth Minnesota

I was a volunteer Friday the 22nd for the annual MAC-V Stand Down for Veterans. MAC-V is the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans. They hold several ‘Stand Down’ events throughout the state.

In 2013, MACV comprehensively served 1,785 veterans and their families throughout Minnesota who were homeless or experiencing a crisis that could lead to homelessness – and the need for services continues to rise. Many homeless and veterans’ organizations recognize MACV’s transitional and permanent housing programs as a model for the nation. We have a passion for serving those in Minnesota who first served us.

I was a volunteer with the Daughters of the American Revolution – Greysolon Daughters of Liberty Chapter in Duluth, MN

The DAR had a table set up and distributed cloth bags, food items, hygiene kits, caps, and helped out with the distribution of other items as needed. At the event there are many service providers offering information on housing, legal advice, and a variety of other programs available to veterans and their families. Medical checkups, haircuts and mini massages were available.

It amazes me how many of our veterans are in such need. This is a worthwhile organization and I encourage everyone to get involved.
